Amir Khan is ready to give Kell Brook fight a shot – Boxing News
Former WBA and IBF light welterweight titlist Amir Khan has once again asserted that he is ready to take on fellow Briton fighter Kell Brook in an all-British blockbuster. Khan, who previously told Brook to get a world title for the fight, insists once again
that the fight can happen only if Brook can defeat Alexander Devon next year.
“If he can get past that, then there is a chance we could get it on in the future,” said Khan for Brook.
Khan himself is not on peaceful shores, as his career was hit by a storm by Danny Garcia knocked him out brutally in the fourth round earlier this year in July. The Briton is set to face yet another undefeated American fighter Carlos Molina today.
“It’s a good test for Brook and I don’t think it’s going to be easy for him. Alexander is a skilful fighter. Even though he lost to Tim Bradley, he’s shown that he can be quite tricky,” he added.
A clash against Brook would be fruitful for Khan, not just Brook. The former champion has been aiming to move up to the welterweight division if he gets a good fight. Probably, he will do so against Brook.
Talking about his preparation for today’s fight, the Bolton proud asserted that his new trainer Virgil Hunter has worked on his defence and his fight strategy. Khan admitted that he made the blunder of ‘staying in the pocket’ for too long against Garcia,
something his former coach Freddie Roach has been saying from day one.
“I have worked a lot more on my defence and trying to incorporate little things into my game which Virgil has taught me.
“For example, when I was hurt against Garcia I should have held, even if it meant losing the round or the one after that rather than trying to stand there and trade.”
For now, Khan stands as a fighter who was just a year earlier being considered among the most promising young fighters. He needs to revive his career now desperately if he wants to get his dream fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
