Amir Khan knows he needs to change his style to avoid another knockout – Boxing News
Former WBA and IBF light welterweight unified champion Amir Khan believes it is time to change his fighting style to avoid another knockout. Khan is scheduled to face American unbeaten fighter Carlos Molina on December 15 in Los Angeles, and many believe
that the Briton will suffer yet another loss of his declining career.
Khan will be entering the ring against Molina following his two losses to American Lamont Peterson and American Danny Garcia. Khan lost his unified titles to Peterson last year in December. He regained the WBA title following Lamont Peterson’s controversial
use of performance enhancing drugs. However, he lost his WBA title to Garcia this year in July via knockout.
Now, the Briton knows he needs to score a victory in order to prove his mettle in the ring.
“I’m fighting Carlos Molina on 15th Dec in LA arena. I’m looking forward to the fight, it’s been a tough, tough journey over the last 12 months that I’ve had,” said Khan to DogHouse boxing.
“Initially having the loss against Peterson, I still believe that I won the fight, and I didn’t get it. I tried to get it again, but it didn’t happen because of the drug tests, after the whole training camp, 10 weeks, the fight was called off. I took maybe
a week or two off and then jumped in with Danny Garcia,” he added.
Khan’s loss to Danny Garcia was the second knockout loss of his career. The first one came at the hands of Breidis Prescott back in 2009, when Khan was knocked out in the very first round.
For now, Khan knows he needs to defeat Molina in a dominating manner in order to score bigger fights in the future. He dreams of taking on welterweight titans Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, and he knows he needs more impressive victories to do so.
Khan is training with American trainer Virgil Hunter to improve his defence. He fired Hall of Famer Freddie Roach last month, believing that the three-time trainer of the year was no longer able to train him well due to his Parkinson’s disease.
