Amir Khan left with no opponent as Danny Garcia chooses Erik Morales – Boxing Special
Former IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan has ran out of options, as his foe Danny Garcia was decided to fight Mexican legend Erik Morales in a rematch in Brooklyn, New York, on October 20.
Khan is currently on a decline in his career, especially after the knockout defeat by Danny Garcia. The Briton is concerned as to how will he possibly trigger back, or whether he even can.
Currently, the Bolton proud is at London 2012, enjoying his time and making plans for the future. However, the former champion seems concerned, and why should not he be? After a brutal knockout loss to Danny Garcia, which proved he is an overrated fighter,
Khan needs to bounce back hard, harder than ever before to ensure he gets back to the track.
Khan lost to Danny Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. As fighter Paulie Malignaggi puts it, Khan was hooked like a fish in the third round. Garcia’s power blow was fatal yet Khan made it a mark to bounce back. However, it was apparent
that the British-Pakistani fighter was no longer in control. He staggered in the ring until the third round ended.
During the fourth round, Khan was put to the mat twice, which eventually compelled the referee to stop the show. It was a heroic victory for Garcia and a disastrous career-breaking defeat for Khan. Numerous analysts and fighters came up saying Khan should
retire but the Brit insisted he still has a lot left in him.
Khan not just lost his WBA title to Garcia, but even his pride and respect. Angel Garcia, trainer and father of Danny Garcia, claimed before the fight that Khan is an overrated fighter, and his son proved it. The former WBA titlist promised his fans that
he would knock out Garcia in the third round, instead he himself got stunned with the blow.
At the post fight press conference, Angel Garcia made it clear that there would be no rematch against Khan, but the Brit was hopeful of getting one. Now, since Garcia has signed up for a rematch against Erik Morales, Khan is left with no option but to find
an alternative.
On the other hand, Danny Garcia believes Erik Morales is worthy of a rematch, whereas Khan is not. In a recent interview, when asked as to why he chose Morales and why not Khan, Garcia claimed, “Although Erik is older he took a lot my big left hooks better
than Amir took one.”
Garcia had knocked out Erik Morales in the eleventh round to earn the WBC light welterweight title. Even in that showdown, Garcia was the underdog, but he marvellously proved his mettle against the Mexican legend.
Khan wants to fight by December but Garcia will not be ready by then. Besides, Garcia is not even in the mood of offering Khan a second chance, as he believes Khan is not deserving.
For now, Amir Khan is making changes within his camp, believing he needs to learn more than what his coach, Hall of Famer, Freddie Roach could teach him. Since Khan’s defence was weak against Garcia, the Bolton proud wants to add a defence coach to his arsenal,
believing it would help him in becoming a better fighter.
