Amir Khan on Ricky Hatton’s return: Hatton has already proven it all – Boxing News
Former IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan believes Ricky Hatton has proven it all during his career. However, the Briton fighter admits that Hatton’s career ending knockout defeat to Manny Pacquiao might be upsetting him.
Khan, who recently lost to Danny Garcia via fourth round knockout, thinks it will be tough for Hatton to make a comeback, especially after staying out for years.
“I don’t think he has to prove anything,” said Khan in his recent interview to Men Media.
He added, “Maybe it’s in the back of his mind after that loss to Manny Pacquiao. You could never leave the sport with a loss like that. What’s the reason he’s doing it? I don’t know – boredom maybe, but losing all that weight and coming back is going to
be tough. He won’t know how hard it is for him until he does come back.”
Hatton was knocked out by Manny Pacquiao in the second round, losing the Ring and IBO light welterweight titlist to the Filipino. The defeat consumed Hatton and he finally decided to hang up his gloves.
Nevertheless, Hatton wants to return to the sport to prove his mettle. The Briton fighter feels his career ended in devastation, something he is looking forward to change.
Hatton was considered among the most diligent fighters of Britain. However, after his loss to Pacquiao, he lost his place and went out with a frown. Similar to David Haye, even Hatton wants to change the bitter ending to his career. He wants to make a comeback
to cement his legacy.
“Boxing is the toughest sport in the world. It is not easy. No one can tell you to quit. Even your family can’t tell you to stop,” added Khan.
On a possible fight against Ricky Hatton, Khan replied in negative, asserting he is looking forward to rematch against American fighter Danny Garcia before proceeding with another opponent.
Khan currently stands at a crucial point of his career, with most of his fellow fighters calling him a ‘write-off’. Probably he is the only one who can understand what Hatton went through after suffering a knockout loss to Pacquiao.
