Amir Khan parts ways with conditioning coach Alex Ariza – Boxing News
Former IBF and WBA unified champion Amir Khan has parted ways with his strength and conditioning trainer Alex Ariza. The news was received of Khan hiring another conditioning coach was received last month and now Khan has confirmed it. Along with this, Khan
also rejected some of the comments Ariza reported of Khan’s. Now, Khan has hired Ruben Tabares as his strength and training coach.
When asked why Khan fired Ariza, he said, “Alex left my camp in the middle. [Alex said] Manny said it was okay to leave - but I didn’t - [and] I was his number two fighter. My new strength coach is down to earth. He doesn’t want his name mentioned [in the
press].”
The incident happened earlier last month when Amir Khan was in Baguio City training with Filipino WBO Welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. Ariza made a move to the USA while both fighters were in the middle stages of their training. According to Ariza,
he had taken permission from Pacquiao to go and train with Julio Chavez for his upcoming bout. Even though Pacquiao was not at all furious over Ariza’s decision, Khan and Roach took offence of it. In his recent interview regarding the situation, Roach said
that even though Alex is a great conditioning coach, whatever he did was unethical. Roach even said that he will advice Pacquiao to hire services of another conditioning coach to avoid such issues in the future.
Back then, Khan was preparing for his rematch against Lamont Peterson, which was scheduled to be held on May 19 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the rematch did not happen, as Peterson failed a drug test. Khan was furious over the
situation and called for another opponent. As of now, Khan is scheduled to face American unbeaten Danny Garcia on July 14. The venue for the bout is not yet decided.
Earlier this week, both fighters were present at a press conference where Khan promised Danny’s father Angel Garcia that he would teach his son a lesson. Angel Garcia had used harsh comments for Khan, which eventually irked the British-Pakistani boxer.
