Amir Khan reckons David Haye should delay his retirement plan – Boxing news
The current World Boxing Association’s World super lightweight champion, Amir Khan, reckons the current World Boxing Association’s world heavyweight champion, David Haye, should delay his retirement plans.
David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye is set to meet the International Boxing Federation, International Boxing Organisation, World Boxing Organisation and Ring Magazine champion Wladimir Klitschko in a unification bout for the heavyweight title on July 2, 2011 at the
Hamburg Arena in Germany.
This is the biggest fight of Haye’s career and also the biggest in the British history but Haye is planning to retire from the sport after he gets done with the bout.
However, Amir ‘The King’ Khan believes Haye should hold his retirement plan until he faces him in the US. Khan told the media he has been in America since long and therefore the media knows him pretty well.
The 24-year-old Khan, who has won 25 of his 26 fights including 17 by the way of a knockout, thinks if Haye will do one or two fights in America before he retires, it can really make him famous.
“I think David's got a little bit of a way to go over here,” he said. “I think this fight with Klitschko will definitely help him but with me, I came to America at a young age, I've fought here twice, had a lot of amateur fights over here, I train at the
Wild Card in Los Angeles... that makes a big difference in getting me known out here with the media.”
He added, “David didn't do that of course and you can't knock what he's done, but I do think one or two fights in America would make him a star.”
The 30-year-old Londoner, Haye, remarked he has no plans to fight after 30 and this is what he has always told everyone.
However, let’s see whether Haye, who has won 25 of 26 fights including 23 by the way of a knockout, considers Amir’s suggestion or not.
