Amir Khan reckons Floyd Mayweather is the best in this era – Boxing news
The World Boxing Organisation and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion of the World Amir Khan has only one more fight in December 2011 before he moves up to 147lbs weight division to seek some big challenges.
The Bolton’s finest, Khan, who is currently set to face Erik Morales, Jorge Barrios or Lamont Peterson later this year, will enter the fight as a heavy favourite against any one of these three fighters. However, in the 147lbs category Khan is aiming the
five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather as a potential opponent and the Brit reckons Mayweather is the best one out there.
Khan, who has won 26 of his 27 fights including 18 by the way of a knockout, told the media the undefeated American combatant Floyd Mayweather, who has won all of his 41 professional bouts including 25 by the way of a knockout, is the best one currently.
Though Khan also mentioned the eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao, he said Mayweather is the best one of this era. Khan claimed he will be fighting Mayweather in the next 12 months at the Wembley Arena.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “Every young fighter wants to fight the best out there. Floyd is the best in this era, also Manny Pacquiao, but Floyd is a possibility in the next 12 months. Floyd has said he would want to fight in Wembley stadium,
I'm sure it would be a sell-out.”
In the end, Khan stated he is going in the right direction as he has moved to the number one spot in the light welterweight category.
“It's so hard for me to get fights at 140lb,” he said. “We will take this one fight and then take a fight at 147lb, where there's more challenges. I've been moved from No. 2 to No. 1 in the light-welterweight division. I'm going in the right direction.”
Let’s see if Amir Khan gets a clash with Floyd Mayweather as it is certainly going to be a very promising fight between both fighters.
