Amir Khan reckons he will easily beat Lamont Peterson with his power and speed – Boxing news
Amir Khan, who is the currently unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation light welterweight champion, believes his power and speed will be too much for Lamont Peterson to handle on the fight night.
Khan, who is more commonly known as King Khan, is set to defend his titles against the Havoc, Peterson, on December 10, 2011 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C.
This is Khan’s concluding fight at 140 pounds division as he will then move up to 147 pounds division, where the likes of pound-for-pound kings, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, operate.
The 24-year-old Bolton’s finest, who holds a record of winning 26 of his 27 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, told the media he is fully prepared for his upcoming fight and he believes his power and speed will be his
key to success.
Khan said as quoted by AFP, “Our job is to beat him [Peterson] and move on to bigger and better things. This is going to make me from being a good fighter to a super star. Beating Lamont Peterson will hopefully make me one of the best fighters in the world.
My power, my speed, I don’t think he can cope with that.”
Khan has chosen Washington D.C as a fight venue on purpose because he wants people in United States to know more about him because his aim is to set up a super-fight with the undefeated American legend, Floyd Mayweather, who is a five-division world champion
and the current World Boxing Council Welterweight World Champion. Therefore, Khan in the end stressed he is fully ready for the Mayweather test as well.
Khan added, “If they put Floyd Mayweather in front of me, I’ll be more than ready.”
Mayweather, who carries a perfect record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, wants to fight on May 5, 2012 and he wants to set up a dream-fight with the Khan’s stable-mate Manny Pacquiao, who
is an eight-division world champion.
However, Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, wants his man to fight Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth time which means Khan’s chances of a Mayweather fight are possible. Let’s see if these two sign a contract.
