Amir Khan reckons his December fight could have been bigger with Timothy Bradley – Boxing news
The current unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion, Amir Khan, reckons his last fight at 140 pounds division could have been bigger if Timothy Bradley had agreed to fight him.
The 24-year-old Bolton’s finest, who is more commonly known as King Khan, wanted to unify the division before moving ahead but he was turned down by both Erik Morales and Timothy Bradley. As a result, he is now fighting Lamont ‘Havoc’ Peterson on December
10, 2011 in Washington, D.C.
Khan, who holds a record of winning 26 of his 27 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, in his exclusive interview to Fighthype.com stated he wanted to have grab all four belts before moving on but he was not given the
chance.
“Yeah, last fight at 140. I wanted [to take] the WBC [title] off Morrales, but he made it clear he didn’t want to fight,” Khan told Fighthype.com.
The Desert Storm, Bradley, was stripped off his WBC light welterweight title on August 28, 2011 because he was not giving others a title shot. Therefore Khan, who wanted to be the youngest undisputed champion in the history of boxing, insisted he is absolutely
not happy with Bradley.
“I wanted to be the youngest undisputed champion in the history of the sport. That was my own personal goal; that’s why I’m pissed off with Bradley. He denied me that opportunity after the Judah fight. I had the IBF and the WBA. Bradley had the WBC and WBO;
he didn’t want to fight, so they stripped him. If he fought me, all four of the belts would have been on the line. This December fight would have been big,” Khan remarked.
The Columbian fighter, Peterson, has won 29 of his 31 professional fights (1 Draw), with 15 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout. However, Khan will still enter the ring as the favourite for the match. Let’s hope Khan wins the bout and moves ahead
in search of bigger fights.
