Amir Khan reckons it is too soon for him to fight Floyd Mayweather – Boxing news
Bolton’s ace pugilist, Amir Khan, who is widely known as King Khan, thinks he is still not in the same league as of the undefeated American legend, Floyd Mayweather.
Mayweather is a five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council Welterweight World Champion.
The currently unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion, Khan, told the media he still needs a few more fights before he sets up a mega-clash with Mayweather, who has never been defeated in the
past 15 years.
Khan is set to take on the Columbian Lamont Peterson on December 10, 2011 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington D.C and the Brit reckons winning against Peterson will help in getting ready for Mayweather.
“It's a bit too soon for Mayweather,” Khan said. “Next year I'm looking at Mayweather. These fights are taking me to that level. If I beat Lamont, it will take me closer to being ready for that fight.”
The 24-year-old, Khan, who carries a record of winning 26 of his 27 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, also claimed his fight with Peterson will be an explosive one. He thinks Peterson is a very skilled boxer. However,
Khan vowed he will bring out his best, as he knows losing his not an option for him.
“All my dreams can be taken away. He's a dangerous fighter,” Khan said. “That fight is in the future. It's not going to be easy. It's going to be an explosive fight. I can't afford to lose. I made that mistake before and I learned from it. I have to win
this fight and I have to take him out. It will bring out the best in me.”
Peterson cannot be underestimated because he also has a record of winning 29 of his 31 professional fights (1 Draw), with 15 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout. Therefore, let’s see if Khan can really emerge as the winner on the fight night.
