Amir Khan retracts his statement about Pacquiao-Marquez bout – Boxing news
Amir Khan, who is Manny Pacquiao’s stablemate and currently the unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion, insisted after watching Pacquiao’s trilogy fight with Juan Manuel Marquez again, he has
concluded that Pacquiao really won the fight by one or two rounds.
The Fighting Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao, who is an eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion), recently secured a 12-round controversial majority decision over the Mexican in their
highly anticipated trilogy bout.
Khan earlier said it was Marquez who won the fight but now the Brit has changed his statement and has claimed after watching the fight again he scored a triumph for the Filipino star.
While speaking on his inclusion, Khan said, “I just watched the Pacquiao versus Marquez fight again and looks like Pacquiao did win the fight by one or two rounds.
“What a fight,” he added. “It reminded me a lot about our sparring sessions together.”
The Bolton’s finest, who is widely known as King Khan, also declared he will suggest Pacquiao to consider retirement. Khan stated he is a good friend of Pacquiao and does not want him to gloss off his great legacy by fighting guys like Marquez.
Khan was quoted saying as, “I thought Marquez won it by one or two rounds. I’m pleased for Manny because he is a stablemate and a good friend, but I’m going to tell him to consider retirement and not go on too long.”
However, Khan now says he did not mean anything like this and his words were put in a wrong way.
The 24-year-old Khan remarked, “In The Telegraph article my words were taken in the wrong context and twisted about the Pacquiao and Marquez fight.”
Khan is currently in US for his upcoming fight with Lamont Peterson on December 10, 2011 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington D.C whereas Pacquiao on the same note may fight Marquez for a fourth time because he has still not been able
to beat Marquez in a convincing way.
