Amir Khan reveals dialogues with Wladimir Klitschko’s trainer – Boxing News
Former IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan is on the brink of changing his trainer Freddie Roach, who helped shaping up the Briton’s career. After Khan’s devastating defeat to Danny Garcia, he is eager to revamp his fighting style, especially
his defence techniques.
“I've had so many trainers approach me in the past week: Steward is the main one who's approached me,” said Khan who is supposedly talking about changing his trainer.
“Many trainers have said they can make me into a big, unbeatable fighter. It's all about taking my time on this, it's a big decision to make. I'm still with Freddie at the moment, but in a week's time things might change,” the Bolton proud added.
Since July 14, the day Khan was knocked out in the fourth round by Garcia, rumours of the former champion planning to change his trainer have surfaced. However, the British-Pakistani fighter has shrugged off the reports, saying he is satisfied with Roach.
Earlier this month, Khan revealed that he might add a defence trainer to his arsenal, along with Freddie Roach.
“There are going to be a lot of things I'm going to change, but you will see a new Amir Khan,” said Khan who has been disturbed after losing his WBA light welterweight title to Garcia.
On July 14, Khan took on Danny Garcia at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. Garcia was defending his WBC light welterweight title while Khan was defending his WBA light welterweight title. The Ring Magazine title was up for grabs as well.
Khan dominated Garcia in the first two rounds. Unfortunately, the Briton was caught up in a huge hook by Garcia that landed him straight to the mat in round three. Although Khan beat the referee’s count and got back in the game, but he could not fight anymore.
In round four, Khan hit the mat twice, compelling the referee to finally end the fight.
According to most analysts, Khan’s defeat was attributed to his own defenseless fighting style, which gave Garcia the opportunity to blow him. Therefore, Khan has been insisting that he will get a special defence trainer to work with him on his defence.
