Amir Khan says Floyd Mayweather is avoiding him because he knows he will get beaten – Boxing news
The current unified International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association World Light Welterweight Champion, Amir Khan, has claimed Floyd ‘Pretty Boy’ Mayweather is avoiding him because he knows his unbeaten record will get broken.
The Bolton’s, Khan, finest who is widely known as King Khan is keen to set up a potential clash with the undefeated American legend, Mayweather, who holds a record of winning all of his 41 professional fight, with 25 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout.
However, Khan’s offer has been turned down by Mayweather, as the American first wants Khan to prove himself by fighting the undefeated Mexican-American boxer, Jesus Vargas, who is signed with Mayweather Promotions.
The 34-year-old Mayweather, who is currently set to face the current WBC World Welterweight Champion, Victor ‘the Vicious’ Ortiz, this weekend on September 17, 2011, also refused to fight Manny Pacquiao many a times because Mayweather thinks Pacquiao uses
steroids ahead of his fights.
Therefore Khan, who has won 26 of his 27 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, thinks Mayweather is avoiding him.
“In my opinion, Mayweather is a chicken. He is doing everything to avoid me just as he did everything to avoid fighting Manny Pacquiao,” Khan told the Sun. “I don't want to sound cocky or arrogant but I believe the real reason for Mayweather avoiding
me is that he knows I have his number. Mayweather knows if he ever fights me his 0 will go.
“All Floyd does is pick fights that he knows he will win. I thought world championship boxing was about proving who is the best but if he keeps turning his back on me how can he still say he is the best?” Khan said.
The 24-year-old Khan has one more fight in December 2011 before he moves up to the 147lbs division and all that is left to see is whether Mayweather will be offered a fight or not.
