Amir Khan says Juan Manuel Marquez refused to fight him – Boxing news
Amir Khan, who is currently the unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion, has hinted that the current World Boxing Association Super, World Boxing Organisation and The Ring lightweight champion,
Juan Manuel Marquez, ducked fighting him. Moreover, Khan also indicated that he will beat Marquez if he ever meets him in the ring.
The Mexican Dinamita, Marquez, is considered as the most difficult opponent for Khan’s stable-mate, Manny Pacquiao, who is a eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation World Welterweight Champion (Super Champion) yet Khan is
confident of beating the Mexican.
Khan said “We also offered a fight to Marquez a long time ago and he refuse that fight. I think styles make fights, and I think with my style you can put Marquez and put Amir, I think we all know what the decision will be.”
The 24-year-old Bolton’s finest, who holds a record of winning 26 of his 27 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, also commented on his win over the American Zab ‘Super’ Judah which happened on July 23, 2011 at the Mandalay
Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Khan added, “We took Zab Judah, who also was another threat in the division, and we took him out. That’s the reason they’ve put me to number one in the world because they call me the best fighter in the division.”
Khan, who is more commonly known as King Khan, is currently set to fight Lamont ‘Havoc’ Peterson on December 10, 2011 at Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C. This is Khan’s concluding fight at 140 lbs division as he will then move up
to the 147 lbs division, where the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jnr operate.
Khan’s main aim is to set up a fight with the undefeated American legend, Mayweather, but his chances of setting up a Mayweather fight doesn’t look bright because Pacquiao may become Mayweather’s next opponent. Therefore, Khan can look for a Marquez fight
if he wants but let’s see what he decides.
