Amir Khan says Timothy Bradley is avoiding fights, but fails to acknowledge pending business dispute
Amir Khan, who has agreed to the terms for a fight with Marcos Maidana, has criticized others in his division for avoiding fights.
Khan criticized counterparts Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander for failing to come to terms for a scheduled January 29 bout.
The WBA junior middleweight champion closed a deal with WBA interim titlist Marcos Maidana last week to fight in Las Vegas on December 4.
"Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander, they're not fighting each other. I said that after the Malignaggi fight that we should come up with a box-off. I would fight Maidana and Bradley should fight Alexander. And the winner should fight the winner," Khan deduced.
Khan said he was surprised Bradley seemed hesitant to sign on for the bout, since he thought that Bradley would defeat Alexander.  “I’m quite surprised. But Bradley likes to pick his fights and you know he should just get it done. Because why is he fighting
all of these fighters he knows that he's going to win against?"
Khan confirmed that until Bradley definitively signs on for Alexander, he will argue he is avoiding the competition in his division.
Reports have emphasized that Bradley has not signed yet due to an internal dispute with promoter Gary Shaw, and not because he is avoiding Alexander. According to several sources, Bradley was pressured into a signing a contract extension by Shaw, but wished
to explore other options before re-signing when his current contract concluded. Shaw allegedly halted finalizing the Alexander fight when the rupture became apparent.
Khan continued his assault on Bradley, saying, “He should sign to fight Alexander and put himself into a challenging fight. Bradley had been saying that I was the one who was avoiding fighters, but now, he's the one that you can say is avoiding all of these
tough fights. He proved it in his last fight.”
