Amir Khan says he will knockout Marcos Maidana, praises Manny Pacquiao
On his way home from sparring with boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao in the Philippines, WBA junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan spoke about his upcoming 11 December bout with interim challenger Marcos
Maidana and predicted a knockout.
"Maidana is going to get knocked out. I'm going to box him. I'm not going to make the same mistakes as the other fighters make when they fight him. I'm too clever for that. I have to move and be smart,"
Khan said to FanHouse.
The two will be touching gloves at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Originally Khan hoped to impress hometown fans by hosting the bout in England, but the possibility was ruled out when broadcasting king HBO and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer came to a deal
to move it to the United States.
In Maidana Khan will unquestionably face his toughest adversary. Maidana is known to possess extreme power, a great chin, and a will to dominate. Khan, considered the more versatile due to his footwork,
speed, and smarts, will look to skillfully outbox him and prove he can topple a knockout artist.
“King Khan” spent the last two weeks training with Pacquiao in the Philippines to prepare him for his 13 November bout with Antonio Margarito. Trainer Freddie Roach enlisted Khan's services to improve
Pacquiao’s speed in the ring after growing accustomed to sparring with junior middleweights Glen Tapia and Mike Medina.
Khan, a firm Pacquiao enthusiast, said that he believes the Philippine congressman is going to dominate the bigger Margarito when they meet at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
After sparring with Pacquiao for over a week, Khan said: “Manny is going to be strong and sharp. Manny is going to beat him. […] He's looking good. It's going to be exciting. […] When we sparred, the
whole gym would stop. We should have charged people. Manny is going to knock Margarito out. Don't get me wrong, Manny is knocking Margarito out."
