Amir Khan signs multiple deals with Golden Boy Promotions, HBO – Boxing news
According to the chief of Golden Boy Promotions, Richard Schaefer, the British pride, Amir Khan, has now extended his four-fight contract with the company right after successfully defeating his rival Paul McCloskey.
In addition to this, a parallel four-fight deal has been finalised between Khan and HBO.
The negotiations between Khan and Golden Boy were on before Khan's fight because his contract with the company was about to expire in the following few weeks of the fight but now it has been agreed upon by both of the parties.
Schaefer said, “We've been negotiating the extension and last week we signed it, we agreed awhile ago that we would want to continue to work together. It took time while we were negotiating the best possible deal for everyone.”
However, the 24-year-old Khan’s last fight against McCloskey will be considered as the first fight under his new contract. The fight was fully crowded by 17,000 boxing fans at the MEN Arena in Manchester. It was Khan’s first professional bout in his home
country since 2008. His last two fights were in United States.
Oscar De La Hoya said, “Amir's future is so bright. Amir wants to unify titles. He would also want to move up to 147 pounds eventually. There are many possibilities. He wants to fight the best and we want to make those fights for him. It's very exciting
for us. We will have a great champion for many years to come.”
Schaefer has performed an excellent job in this regard that he was not only working on the new promotional contract but at the same time, he was also in negotiations with Khan to finalise his contract with HBO.
HBO has been the host network of three exciting fights of Khan in the past. First one was against Paul McCloskey, second against Marcos Maidana and the third one was against Paulie Malignaggi.
Schaefer met multiple times with HBO executives including the father of Khan, Shah Khan and the attorney of Khan, Robert Davis in the US in an effort to finalise the contract.
It is expected that under the new contract, Khan’s second fight will be against American National Timothy Bradley Junior as a unification bout on July 23, 2011.
