Amir Khan still believes he won the fight against Peterson – Boxing News
Just a month and half before his fight with the current unified WBA (Super) and IBF Light Welterweight Champion, Amir Khan still believes that he won the last fight in December. In his recent interview, Khan said that he knows and every fan of his knows
that he won the fight and that he will do it again. Khan also spoke about his game plan for the fight.
When asked if he is holding any grudges, the British-Pakistani boxer iterated, “We have to stick to the game plan better, not stand there and take shots, I’ve proven time after time I’ve got a good chin, I’ve taken shots from the likes of Maidana, Judah
and Lamont Peterson.”
He was then asked about his last encounter with Peterson. Khan replied, “Lamont Peterson couldn’t hurt me in the fight, I’ve been a lot harder by the other opponents, maybe that’s the reason I stayed there a bit longer, just for him to load up on me.”
Khan then said that if Peterson wants to stand there and fight him then everyone knows he can take it. However, he said, he has a game plan and he will stick to it to make sure he defeats Peterson this time. According to him, his game plan this time would
be to hit and move. Khan admitted that in his previous fight with Peterson, he took it too easy ‘like a walk in a park’. He accepted the fact that he got too confident and put Peterson down earlier than it was needed. He then said that this time he is going
to be serious and will follow a tough strategy throughout the game to make sure Peterson does not get the chance to recover and take him over.
Lastly, Khan added that he has always trained like a challenger for any of his fights, whether he is the champion or not.
Khan and Peterson are scheduled to take on each other on May 19 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. The fight will be a title rematch for Khan, whereas the first ever title defense fight for Peterson.
