Amir Khan still counting on Lamont Peterson to accept rematch offer – Boxing news
Amir Khan, former unified WBA (Super) & IBF light welterweight champion, today revealed he is still hopeful of Lamont Peterson, the current champion of the aforementioned titles, accepting the offer.
Although Lamont Peterson has been throwing around tantrums recently, Amir Khan is still counting on him to accept the offer he has made.
Amir Khan reportedly asserted that his side will give Peterson another 2 or 3 days to make his choice or else they will move on to another fighter.
In Amir’s words, “We’ll probably give him another 48 hours to get back with us and then we’ll move on to someone else. I’m going to move up to the next weight category and look at someone else because I’m not going to be wasting my time. I think everyone
knows that I want a rematch and I deserve a rematch, so we’re just waiting on Lamont Peterson and his team at the moment.”
He further added, “I’ve offered them a great deal. 50% of worldwide revenue so it’s going to be the most he’s ever going to get in a fight.”
On Lamont Peterson’s recently revealed plans of fighting Marquez, Amir said that he has made him a great deal of a 50/50 split of the worldwide revenue the fight will earn. He further stated that this is probably the biggest offer he will ever get in his
career and if he chooses to fight Marquez he will not be offered such a mouth-watering pie.
Lastly, Khan iterated that it is ethical for Lamont to accept the rematch if he (Lamont) thinks he was rightfully the winner of the titles and he beat him (Amir) square.
Amir Khan lost both his titles to Lamont Peterson by a controversial decision on December 10, 2011. Since then Khan has been reluctant to get an immediate rematch or reversal of results since there are a number of loopholes in the final judgement.
Khan even approached the IBF with a formal appeal requesting for an immediate rematch to which Peterson agreed initially but then backed off. As of now, nothing can be said as to whether Peterson will fight Khan or Marquez as his next opponent.
