Amir Khan stops Zab Judah in five rounds to become the new unified champion – Boxing news
The British boxer of Pakistani descent Amir Khan has become the new IBF and WBA world light welterweight unified champion as he knocked out the former International Boxing Federation’s light welterweight champion Zab Judah in the fifth round in Las Vegas
on Saturday.
The 24-year-old Amir Khan and the 33-year old Zab Judah were scheduled for a 12-round IBF and WBA unification bout on July 23, 2011 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Khan won the bout against Judah by the way of a knockout.
The Bolton’s finest, who is widely known as King Khan, started the fight in a straightforward fashion and his speed proved to be too much for Judah.
The American pugilist, Judah, tried his best but Khan was simply invincible. Judah, who is a southpaw, even unleashed his left hand two times in the third round but there was no use and in the fifth round, a dazzling right hand from Khan finished the matters
off.
Khan, who has now won 26 of his 27 fights including 18 by the way of a knockout, was very delighted on becoming the new unified champion of the world, as he knows now there will be a lot more opportunities coming towards him.
Khan, who was leading Judah on three scorecards in the first four rounds, told the media he was not worried at all. He claimed it would have been only a matter of time for him as he said he would have knocked Judah out anyway.
“If it had gone another few rounds, I would have knocked him out with a clean shot,” Khan said.
Khan landed a body shot on Judah’s ribs which forced the former five-time world champion to crash down to the canvas.
However, Judah stated it was a low blow and he was only trying to gather himself.
“It was a low blow. I was trying to get myself together,” Judah said. “That was self-defense right there.”
