Amir Khan talks about his knockout defeat to Danny Garcia – Boxing News
Former WBA and IBF light welterweight titlist Amir Khan believes he was acting a bit too brave for his own good against Danny Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
Right after the fight, Khan claimed he was all good and was surprised as to why the referee stopped the fight. Probably, the Briton was unaware of the condition he was in but now he knows. In his recent interview, Khan admitted he was completely shattered
by Garcia’s blow.
“We made a mistake dropping the right hand and I got caught with a big left hook,” said the British-Pakistani fighter.
“He caught me right on the neck, behind my head and I just couldn't get my balance back. Danny Garcia just put the pressure on then and won fairly,” Khan added.
“If I'd stuck to the game plan I would have won the fight. He caught me with a shot many fighters have tried but not caught me with, but it was his night.”
Khan was knocked out by Garcia in the fourth round. The first shot that took down Khan came in the third round to the neck. Khan was physically and mentally devastated by the left hook. He hit the canvas but came back, however he could not make it to the
mark.
During the fourth round, Khan was staggering in the ring. He was struggling to get back to his sense but the unbeaten American Garcia did not let him. The WBC light welterweight titlist capitalised fully on the opportunity, making sure Khan does not get
the chance to recover.
Khan not only lost his WBA light welterweight to Danny Garcia, but also the opportunity to unify three titles. Garcia’s WBC light welterweight title, Khan’s WBA light welterweight title and Ring Magazine’s title was on the line. Unfortunately, Garcia took
shattered Khan’s dreams of unifying titles once again in his titles.
As for now, the Bolton proud wants to add a defence trainer to his arsenal, to make sure he learns all the skills to defend himself from such a blow in the future.
