Amir Khan has proved himself a jack of all sports by going over to America and throwing out the first pitch at a baseball game.
Khan, who fights Danny Garcia for the WBC and WBA light-welterweight titles on the 14th of July, hasn’t had a change of career through. The Bolton-born pugilist had in fact been bestowed the honour of throwing out the first ball as the LA Dodgers took on the New York Mets at Dodgers Stadium on Sunday,
This privilege is a ceremonial event normally given to celebrities or high profile figures as way to add a bit of pizzazz to teh start of a game. It also serves as a good way to promote something and shows that Khan does have a decent following in the United States.
Khan certainly seemed to enjoy his change of sports as he wrote on his Twitter, “I’m now leaving the Dodgers it was great fun and what a great experience. Home time now.”
One American who wouldn’t have been happy seeing Khan chancing his hand at baseball is his rival, Garcia.
Known as “Swift,” Garcia is currently undefeated and holds the WBC strap, but the best win on his record so far is against a well past his prime Erik Morales.
Going into this fight Khan probably is the slight favourite, however, Garcia believes that he is tailor made for his style.
"I know that I'm going to hurt him in this fight,” Garcia told The Boxing Lab.
“He never fought anyone like me. All of his other fights were set-up fights to make him look good. This fight right here, he is going to have his hands full,"
Khan’s fighting style revolves around his outstandingly quick hand-speed, but Garcia actually thinks that he has the skills to come through that challenge and feels he can match Khan whatever his strategy.
"Everybody says he's fast and all that, but he reaches a lot with his punches and I think that's where he goes wrong. I'm a great counter-puncher, so if he comes in and he wants to reach, then he has to pay.
“If he wants to fight then we can fight. If he wants to box then we could box. Whatever he wants to do, I'm going to adapt in there and make an exciting fight and win."
