Amir Khan to fight in Anaheim next – Boxing News
British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan plans to have his next fight in Anaheim. Golden Boy promotions is currently taking up all the chores to ensure Khan gets his bout by July 7 at the Honda Center. Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, notified media
of his company’s plans yesterday.
Amir Khan, who was scheduled to face Lamont Peterson, is currently in a mess, considering his rematch against the IBF and WBA welterweight champion did not materialize. Khan trained hard for the match and now he will not get his hands on Lamont Peterson.
Peterson failed a drug test conducted by VADA, due to which the fight met a dead end. For now, Khan is looking forward to his new opponent and the new venue.
When asked about their plans, Schaefer revealed that initially they were thinking of Danny Garcia as Khan’s opponent but things did not work out well. Schaefer further said that it was Khan’s wish to fight in Southern California and now chances are that
Khan might face Devon Alexander or Erik Morales. However, since Morales has lost to Garcia recently, Schaefer thinks it would be better if Khan takes on Garcia instead of Morales.
When asked about Morales, Schaefer said, “That's a good fight, but what's significant is that Todd and I are having a conversation.”
For now, there is nothing confirmed regarding Khan’s next opponent. Khan is quite depressed over the match cancelation and he believes it is all Lamont’s fault. In his recent interview, the former champion said, “All fighters should be tested before and
after a fight. It will make the sport cleaner and that's what we need. The way he kept coming forward after he was put down twice in the first round, the way he was recovering, I knew this was not the same Lamont Peterson I had been watching in videos, this
guy was totally different. It was like fighting two people in the ring. I was hurting him and putting him down and he was still coming forward.”
Khan wants the IBF to return him his titles and call his December bout with Peterson a ‘No Contest’.
