Amir Khan to train with Manny Pacquiao
Junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan will give himself to Manny Pacquiao’s camp in Baguio City to help the Philippine superstar and prepare for his own title fight against Marcos Maidana on December 11.
According to Gareth A. Davies of the
Telegraph, Khan will assist Pacquiao and train with Freddie Roach for three weeks.
Khan spoke about Pacquiao, with whom he’s sparred in the past.
“I get so much from working alongside Manny. We never fight over Freddie's attention,” he said to the
Telegraph. “Tell me if there’s a better place to be than with the world’s best trainer and the world’s best boxer. I learn so much from rubbing shoulders with Manny and I genuinely admire him.”
In his last fight "King Khan" retained his WBA junior welterweight title against Paulie Malignaggi. He managed to stop him in the 11th round.
In preparation for a 2008 bout with Oscar De la Hoya, Pacquiao previously enlisted Khan’s services.
Pacquiao is focused on his 13 November bout against Antonio Margarito at the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The fight will be for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title. With a win Pacquiao will
claim eight titles in eight divisions, a record for the sport.
Khan will fight Maidana, his mandatory WBA challenger, at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Originally Khan wanted the fight to be in his native England but the wish was thwarted
after the Golden Boy CEO secured an HBO broadcasting date for the fight.
Khan said he doesn’t see a fight with Pacquiao in the future.
“As for fighting Pacquiao in the future, I can't really see that happening. I’m sure by the time I get to that level he will be calling it a day. We train in the same camp and I've got too much respect
for Manny to fight him,” Khan asserted.
