Amir Khan unhappy over Floyd Mayweather’s victory against Victor Ortiz – Boxing news
The currently unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion, Amir Khan, is not happy with the way Floyd ‘Pretty Boy’ Mayweather knocked out the ‘Vicious’ Victor Ortiz on September 17, 2011.
Ortiz head-butted Mayweather in the earlier stages of the fourth round due to which he was docked a point. However, when the fight was reset, Ortiz went on to hug Mayweather as an apology. Mayweather allowed Ortiz to hug him but at the time, he launched
a left hook followed by another dazzling right which knocked out the 24-year-old.
Although the Bolton’s finest, Khan, who is widely known as King Khan, initially backed Mayweather as he believed Ortiz should have kept his gloves up, he has now changed his mind.
The 24-year-old Khan, who holds a record of winning 26 of his 27 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, stated Mayweather took advantage of Ortiz as he was not ready.
Khan believes any other fighter would have been disqualified for doing the same thing but since Mayweather brings in a lot of business from pay-per-view, boxing organisations cannot disqualify him.
“They let him [Mayweather] off the hook because he is Floyd Mayweather,” Khan told BBC Sport. “If that was anyone else you would been disqualified but because it was Mayweather they can’t disqualify him. Mayweather is a fighter off the streets and he thought
‘forget this, I’m going to get this kid back’ and as soon as the ref wasn’t looking, bang, he hit him [Ortiz] with a left hook. If that happened without Victor hitting him in the head, I think Floyd would have been disqualified.”
Let’s see if the undefeated American legend Floyd Mayweather, who holds an incredible record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, responds to Khan.
