Amir Khan unhappy over not getting a chance for a unification bout – Boxing news
The current unified International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association World Light Welterweight Champion, Amir Khan, is not happy at the thought of not getting a unification bout before he moves up to the welterweight division.
The welterweight division features the likes of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
The 24-year-old Khan, who holds a record of winning 26 of his 27 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, is still on a look out for a potential opponent for his last fight in 140lbs division. The Bolton’s finest pugilist
wants to unify the division before moving up.
Khan, who is widely known as King Khan, tried his best to set up a clash with the likes of WBO champion Timothy Bradley and the newly crowned WBC champion Erik Morales. However his offer was turned down which has now left Khan with a mandatory challenger,
Lamont Peterson.
Therefore, Khan is not happy with the situation. He told the media he is ready to fight anyone but he is not getting a good fight.
“I will fight anyone put in front of me but there seems to be a lot of boxers who talk a good fight but when push comes to shove they won't get in the ring with me,” Khan told Sky Sports. “Tim Bradley was offered fortunes to fight me for his WBC
title but it never happened and now he has been stripped of his belt.”
He said, “Erik Morales was offered a fight against me but he is now saying he won't be ready for me until next year.”
In the end, Khan admitted he does not have any option except waiting for an opponent.
“All I can do is fight whoever is put in front of me but there is an increasing small number willing to do just that,” Khan added.
Let’s see if Amir Khan gets a unification bout as it will certainly pull a huge crowd.
