Amir Khan wants more time from Freddie Roach – Boxing News
British-Pakistani fighter Amir Khan wants to limit his training sessions only to himself, asking his trainer to stop sharing his time with others. Following his loss to Danny Garcia on July 14, Khan believes he spends too much time travelling and sharing
his space and time with other fighters.
“Yes, 100 per cent I want to stay with Freddie - if he agrees on giving me the time I need, and also there is a few things that I think we need to work on,” said Khan when asked if he wants more time from Freddie Roach, who recently revealed he left Khan’s
camp for four days to train Chavez jr.
The entire scenario has turned ugly for Khan, as he has lost two recent fights against two mediocre fighters, Peterson and Garcia. Khan’s capabilities are being doubted widely, even by fellow fighters such as Carl Froch.
“If we can agree on those things, then I don't want to move to anyone else. I don't really want to be sharing. When I'm not there I don't mind what Freddie does, but (in camp) I just need someone who is going to be with me constantly and working hard with
me,” said Khan.
Khan suffered an early knockout defeat at the hands of Garcia. It was humiliating for the Bolton fighter, who thought Garcia would be an easy one to beat. Khan lost his WBA title again, along with his pride.
“We will come back stronger - we have come back stronger from defeat before and won titles,” added Khan when asked about his plans in the sport.
Khan admits it was his blunder, which gave Garcia the opportunity to strike him. The Bolton proud was fighting with his hands lower than his shoulder, dropping his guard completely.
For now, Khan believes he needs better training. The former champion wants to spend more time on his training regime instead of travelling from one place to another every other week, which would happen if he trains with Roach.
The situation is messy but Roach has promised he will schedule things better for Khan.
