Amir Khan wants to fight Floyd Mayweather for fans – Boxing Fans
Recognising the enormous demand by fans to see Mayweather in action against a suitable opponent, WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan wants to go head to head with the unbeaten American. According to Khan, he wants to proceed with the Mayweather fight
after knocking out Danny Garcia.
“It’d bring fans back to the sport,” said Khan while talking about his possible bout against Mayweather, the current WBC welterweight titlist.
He added, “We're losing too many fans and funds to mixed martial arts.”
It should be noted here that boxing fans were and are expecting the unbeaten American Floyd Mayweather to lock horns with the Filipino Storm Manny Pacquiao. However, after months of dialogues, both Pacquiao and Mayweather failed to conclude the super-bout
and went on the fight other opponents.
As of now, Mayweather is fulfilling his 90-day jail sentence. Even though Pacquiao is keen to fight Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, his promoter Bob Arum is of a different view. According to Arum, in Mayweather’s absence, there is no one who can guarantee if the
WBC champion would want to fight Pacquiao. Therefore, the chances of a Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight are rare for this year.
On the other hand, Khan is looking forward to either collide with Timothy Bradley or with Mayweather.
“I met with Mayweather’s manager and they’re very interested in having a fight” said Khan.
“It’d be brilliant, whether it’s in the U.K. or here in the U.S. We could do one in each place.”
Khan is certain that his bout against Mayweather will happen sooner or later. When asked about the entire scenario, Khan insisted, “It's not a question of if this fight will happen. The question is when it's going to happen.”
Khan will defend his WBA light welterweight title against Danny Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Even Danny Garcia will have his WBC light welterweight title on the line, along with the vacant Ring Magazine title. According
to CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer, winner of the match will unite all three titles, becoming the best fighter in the division.
