Amir Khan will announce his trainer by next week – Boxing News
Former WBA and IBF light welterweight titlist Amir Khan has finally decided to change his trainer. Currently, the Bolton fighter is being trained by Hall of Famer trainer Freddie Roach.
Following Khan’s recent knockout defeat to Danny Garcia, the British-Pakistani boxer blamed his trainer for not equipping him with strong enough defence. However, to many analysts, it was not Roach’s fault but Khan’s carelessness that got him knocked out.
“We’ll come back stronger. We are gonna change a lot of things in the camp. The coach maybe, also sparring partners, also training methods,” said Khan in his recent interview.
“So we’re gonna change a lot of things. I know that I will be much better, much stronger and much explosive,” he added.
It should be noted here that Freddie Roach was the man who lifted Khan’s career once again following his first round knockout loss Breidis Prescott.
Now, the Bolton fighter once again wants to change his trainer, in pursuit of being a better fighter.
“I am thinking of fighting, maybe 140 again or maybe 147. It depends of what the best is for me there,” added the British Pakistani fighter, who is nearly at the end of his career. If he loses again to a mediocre fighter, he will destroy his brand forever.
“I tried to fight Danny Garcia again but he don’t want to fight me. He avoided me to fight Erik Morales. That is why HBO did not buy that fight. That fight is fighting on Showtime.”
According to Khan, the support he is getting from HBO shows he still is one of the most demanded fighters in the world. Khan, who knows his fans are disappointed in him, wants to fight once again for his fans, to show them he still is the number one light
welterweight titlist.
Khan lost his WBA title to Danny Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. He was knocked out by the unbeaten American in the fourth round of the fight. For Khan, it was one of the most embarrassing defeats of his career, and
surely one of the most damaging ones.
