Amir Khan will use Marcos Maidana as stepping stone towards Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Amir Khan has reiterated intentions to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the distant future.
In an article for boxingscene.com, the WBA junior welterweight champion indicated his desired trajectory in coming months: topple mandatory challenger Marcos Maidana, then the winner
of Timothy Bradley-Devon Alexander, then “Pretty Boy Floyd.”
“I want to unify this [junior welterweight] division, I want to get Maidana out the way and then fight the winner out of Devon Alexander and Timothy Bradley, which will make me the
unified champion at light welterweight. Then I would like to move up a division and fight Floyd,” Khan confirmed.
Khan, one of the most respected boxers in Britain today, is set to take on Maidana in Las Vegas on December 11 in what is amounting to be one of the biggest bouts of the year.
But Maidana isn't Mayweather.
Still, Khan wants to suggest he's ready for the best in the world and silence disbelievers with a definitive outclassing of the Argentine.
Many feel Khan, under the promotional guidance of Golden Boy Promotions, has avoided heavy-hitting opponents since suffering a stunning first round knockout loss to Breidis Prescott
back in 2008.
Khan will look to utilize superior footwork and the tutelage of master-trainer Freddie Roach to score the win over Maidana, a predigious knockout artist who can break through even
the toughest defences. He's 29-2 with 27 knockouts.
But despite that, the defending champ maintains its Maidana who should be scared of his power. Speaking about the upcoming fight, “King Khan” said: “I think I go into this fight with
the most power. I think I have a shot to knock out anyone if I hit them clean. In the Malignaggi fight, you know I had him going a few times but the guy was just running I couldn’t catch him.”
“But with Maidana he is going to come onto the shots and when you have someone who wants to fight you as well, it just makes the fight more exciting.”
