Amir Khan willing to face Ricky Hatton in comeback bout – Boxing News
Former WBA and IBF light welterweight titlist Amir Khan has welcomed the idea of a super-fight against returning boxing sensation Ricky Hatton. Khan’s manager revealed that the former champion believes it will be an interesting show for the fans to watch.
“I've spoken to Amir about this before and while he and Ricky are good friends, he knows boxing is a business,” revealed Khan’s manager in an interview with Daily Mirror. “A fight between Amir and Ricky would be huge. It would be a massive superfight. It
could sell 100,000 at Wembley and everyone would want to see it.
“I'm sure they could put their friendship to one side for 12 weeks for this fight.”
Hatton lost his last fight against Manny Pacquiao via knockout. On the other hand, Khan suffered a fourth round knockout against unbeaten American fighter Danny Garcia recently, losing his WBA title to Garcia.
Since Khan is looking for a super-fight to rebuild his brand after his second consecutive defeat against Garcia, Hatton is probably the opponent to go for.
Hatton is currently in retirement, and even though he has not officially confirmed his comeback, sources suggest that the Briton is preparing to get back in the ring.
Amir Khan wanted to face Danny Garcia in a rematch this December, but the American fighter suggested going for a rematch against Mexican legend Erik Morales in October.
Since Khan is left with no opponent in his division, he is considering moving to the welterweight division. In this context, Khan can face Hatton, who left the industry as a former welterweight titlist.
If Khan moves up to the welterweight division, he will face fierce competition but will at least have the liberty of choosing opponents, which he cannot now. The light-welterweight division is already very limited, and considering the fact that Khan has
already lost to the best, Garcia, there is no more scope for him.
Khan’s dreams of facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. shattered when Garcia hooked him in the ring. Khan’s preparations looked zero when he could not defend himself against Garcia’s huge hook. He hit the canvas with a boom and was unable to get back to his game again,
losing to Garcia in the fourth round.
