Amir Khan’s relationship with Freddie Roach in danger – Boxing News
Following his humiliating defeat at the hands of Danny Garcia, former WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan is reconsidering his ties with Hall of Famer coach Freddie Roach.
Khan is Roach’s second best fighter, while the first one being Manny Pacquiao. However, Khan is unhappy with his status in Roach’s camp and he wants to be number 1.
“The time has come for me to be No 1 in my training camp,” said Khan in a recent interview.
He added, “I’ve got to start putting myself first and stop worrying about other people.”
Khan lost his newly acquired WBA light welterweight title to Danny Garcia. The Bolton proud went down with a highly damaging shot to the neck. Although he stood up and came back, he was not in the shape to damage Garcia any further. Khan lost the battle
due to the blunder he committed of letting his face open for Garcia to take advantage of, something a professional fighter should never do.
Khan realises his mistake, and therefore he wants to train better to never lose control.
Khan added, “I can’t afford to make any more mistakes. Me and my team must go over every detail and make changes where necessary. It’s time for me to grow up.”
“I’m a man now, not a boy. I’m the one who has to do the fighting and take the punches so I must be the main focus of everyone around me.”
Khan is currently embarrassed and feels dejected after being bashed by millions of fans around the world. He acquires a huge fan base of Asian-English and especially Muslim boxing fans all around the world. The way Khan lost to Peterson was not just disappointing
for him and his corner but also for his fans.
Realising his blunder, the British-Pakistani boxer did apologise to his fans through his Twitter.
For now, Khan’s dreams of facing Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have shattered. The Briton will have to invest at least a year more to regain his lost pride and stature. If he is there, only then can he think of facing giants like Mayweather and Pacquiao.
