Amir claims he was not aware of ICC suspension clauses
The suspended Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir, who has irked the International Cricket Council, and the Pakistan Cricket Board after featuring in a club match in Rawalpindi despite provisional suspension, has conceded that he was "not aware" of the clauses
of his suspension.
Amir, who remains suspended from all forms of cricket along with new-ball partner, Mohammad Asif, and the then captain, Salman Butt, on spot-fixing allegations, bowled a few overs in a friendly club match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Army and Rawalpindi at the Rawalpindi
Cricket Stadium earlier this week.
Amir, while talking to a newspaper, claimed that he did not have any intention of violating the rules set by ICC rather he expressed unawareness regarding the clauses of suspension.
"I had no intention of violating the terms and conditions of my suspension, especially when I know that the ICC tribunal is due to give its verdict on February 5”, said Amir. “But I really was not aware about the clauses of my suspension", he added.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has asked both the teenager as well the match organizers in the Rawalpindi Regional Cricket Academy to submit an explanation over the incident.
The 18-year-old sensational pacer confirmed that the PCB had asked him to submit an explanation over the issue. He further added that he has already sent his reply to the board.
"Look, it was all a misunderstanding and that is all”, said the teenager. “And I have already sent my reply to the PCB about the whole issue and made my position clear", he continued.
The International Cricket Council had suspended Amir, Asif and Salman Butt in September last year, under article two of its anti-corruption code, following spot-fixing allegations against them.
A British tabloid named News of the World had claimed that the players were bribed by an illegal bookmaker http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed for delivering some deliberate no balls in the fourth Test against England at Lord’s.
Besides banning the players from taking part in international cricket activities, the International Cricket Council had also barred the suspended trio from participating in any cricket activity that comes under PCB’s umbrella or its affiliated organizations.
But Amir claimed that he did not have an idea that the suspension is applicable to club cricket as well.
"It was a club friendly [game] and the PCB had nothing to do with it, and that is why I played. I have sent my explanation to the board", he said.
