Amitabh Bachan to inaugurate the Gujarat Kensville Challenge
The first ever European Challenge Tour event in India will start tomorrow  at the Kensville Golf and Country Club and will be inaugurated by the biggest name in Bollywood. The most talented and respected actor in the Indian Film Industry, Amitabh Bachan
also known as the ‘BIG B’ will mark his first tryst with golf tomorrow as he inaugurates the event.
The 200,000 Euro event is part of the European Challenge Tour and will make Ahmedabad the third city in India to stage the international golfing event. Before, New Delhi and Kolkata have been more active in hosting golf events.  The Indian professional golfer,
Jeev Milkha Singh, will be India’s flag bearer in the event.
Jeev has special attachment to this event as he co-designed the 7250 yards, par 72 parkland course at Kensville Golf Club in the state of Gujarat. Seeing that he is the first Indian to ever have a signature course on home soil, Milkha is very excited for
the event. He is hoping that this event will increase the growing popularity of the sport in India. Along with the 60 Challenge tour members, 54 home-grown players will be competing as well.
“If we had so many world-class tournaments in India during my early career, India would have had a Major Champion by now. But I promise that day is not far away, especially after what Arjun Atwal has achieved. This event will undoubtedly play a great role
in enhancing the popularity of the sport,” said Singh.
Jeev, who had been struggling with back injury recently appeared in the Royal Trophy that took place in Thailand. Having been declared fit on the eve of the event, Singh played in Asian team. Even though the Asians lost the trophy to European team again,
it was good practice for the player.
He said that the Challenge tour coming to India is a great thing for Indian golf with the Indian players benefitting a lot. Talking about the course, Milkha commented that the long windy course with plenty of water hazard will make the event even more challenging.

The Challenge Tour is co sanctioned by the Professional golf tour of India. Other than Jeev, Ashok Kumar, who is leading player on the PGIT order of merit, will play in the event. Ganganjeet Bhullar, Mohd Siddikur Rahman, Mukese Kumar, Vijay Kumar and Alessandro
Tadini will also tee off in the Kensville Challenge tomorrow.
