Amla Sweeps Clean the 2010 SA Cricket Awards With Five Awards
Hashim Amla, the first South African of Indian descent to play for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 has ended his brilliant season, winning five awards at the 2010 SA Cricket annual awards, including the South African cricketer of the year award.
Amla has had a record smashing season, scoring 923 runs, some four centuries in nine Tests against England, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. He was well rewarded, winning the Test cricketer of the year award, along with the other awards.
He was not only the fans favorite but also won over his peers, winning the CSA fans’ cricketer of the year and the SA players’ player of the year. The “So Good!” award was also collected by him, which is awarded for the best individual match performance – his, came against India with a match winning 253 not out.
On his debut in 2004 against India, Amla failed to impress with only 24 runs. He improved a little in the Tests against England, scoring some 36 runs, which were still not enough to impress the selectors or the opposition.
As a result he was dropped from the team and for a period of two years he returned to the Dolphins, where he gave up the captaincy to improve his batting. Upon his return to Test cricket, he had made a significant improvement and singlehandedly led his team to a draw against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in 2006, where the odds were against them.
After that, Amla has only improved, cementing his place in both the Test and One Day International teams. He has proved vital for the team, scoring four centuries, including his first double. He has also become one of the few to score centuries in both innings of a match – an impressive feat.
His critics suggested he wasn’t suitable for Test cricket but he soon proved them wrong when he went on to score 400 runs in the series against West Indies. After winning the awards that he so deserved, Amla was still humble, “I've had a very good year, but I still have a lot to learn. Cricket is a game where you have to be on your toes, and you have to learn new things all the time.” Amla said.

Gibbs won the MTN40 cricketer of the year award, with Colin Ingram taking home three awards; Standard Bank Pro20 cricketer of the year, SA Cricketers’’ Association MVP award and the Domestic players’ player of the year award and youngster Rilee Rossouw was selected to be the Super Sport Series Cricketer of the year.
