Amla still coming to term with batting collapse – Cricket News Update

South African top order batsman, Hashim Amla revealed that the team is still coming to terms with the batting collapse which saw them being bowled out for 168 on Day 2 of the second Test against Sri Lanka.

The Proteas were in all sorts of trouble at the end of Day 2, where they surrendered a healthy lead of 170 after being dismantled by Sri Lankan pacer, Chanaka Welegedara, who took an impressive five-wicket haul.

The left-armer struck early to remove opener, Jacques Rudolph before taking the all important wicket of Jacques Kallis as the hosts’ run chase began on a poor note. A solid partnership between AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla followed but with Welegedara removing
both in quick successions, the tie shifted in favour of the tourists.

Rangana Herath, the spinner, then provided able support from the other end as he claimed four wickets to stumble the hosts on 168. It included crucial breakthroughs of Ashwell Prince and Mark Boucher, along with lower order scalps of Morne Morkel and Imran
Tahir.

Amla, who top scored with 54, admitted that his side is feeling the heat and needs to dig deep on the third morning to counter the threat posed by the Sri Lankan batters.

"We're still getting over being bowled out for less than 170, said Amla. "We need to dig deep, take early wickets and make sure we come out on top."

"Sri Lanka bowled well but there were a lot of soft dismissals on our part," added Amla."Wednesday is a bowling day and we're concentrating on that.

He also praised the valuable knock of pacer, Dale Steyn, who made a brisk unbeaten 29 but also added that it was up to the top order to make runs.

"We are lucky to have Dale coming in at number eight, as he is a clean striker of the ball, and Imran Tahir also enjoys his batting but we shouldn't be leaving it to the tail-enders to make runs for us," claimed Amla.

Steyn then also provided the wicket of Sri Lankan skipper, TIllakaratne Dilshan as the tourist ended on 7 for 1. An enthralling day 3 awaits at Durban with both sides looking to come on top.
