  1. It used to be that there were bacteria pills that you could put in the tank to break down the ammonia.  I always used an under-gravel filter and an outside filter, sometimes a little in tank box filter too.

I would wait at least 24 hours, though 48 would be better.  If what you are using is bacteria, the water may become cloudy before it clears up.  Don't worry about that, it's just doing its job.

  2. 72 hours, get rid of ammonia with water changes every time it increases rapidly, ammonia is one of the leading causes to fish loss, only overfeeding is higher.

  3. first of are u using RO/DI water if not then thats problem

your cycle will last a good while DON NOT rush it using chemicals the worse think u can do is add chemicals because it will coma back with a vengence

heres agreat link explaining your cycle

    http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.ht...

also when u add fish inly add one or two about every month(depending on size)

everytime you add a new fish you getr a mini cycle simply meaning your tank has to up its bacteria to catch up with the fish you add

do not get discouraged the end is well worth it

  4. I would leave it over night. i just went thru this with mine about 2 months ago. it took me about 3 weeks to get it right and i lost alot of fish cause it was not set up right before i had gotten them. I have a tropical fish tank. It took me a while to have it work out. I had 2 tiger barbs, one gourami, 2 long finned and one pictus cat. I lost all but One of the long finned and the Gourami. I felt bad... but i went back to the store over and over and now it is set up and the fishes are fine.

I have a silver tipped shark, 2 long finned barbs... one albino tiger barb... and the original Gourami. he is a survivor!

It will work out in time... just dont give up!
