Question:

Ammoxicillin for a toothache?

I went to the ER last night because of a toothache and the dentist can't get me in until the 29th. (I'm 27 weeks pregnant, figured I should go to the ER just incase it was an infection or something ..) Anyway, they gave me antibiotics. Will this keep it under control until I get to the dentist?

  1. You should call the dental office back and try to get on a cancellation list....or let them know your situation...

Again, these problems should be caught sooner, then they are more manageable.

women should be seen  before they become pregnant, to make sure their teeth are ok, and these problems are more manageable....

I am making the case that dental visits every 6mos - 1year will help prevent bigger problems.

  2. If it's an infection, yes, the ammoxicillin will keep it at bay.

  3. just suck on a clove.

  4. If your pain is from the infection i'm sure it should stay under control..

But my question is, why would they give a pregnant woman antibiotics? I thought that was bad..

  5. The antibiotic will help if the pain is caused by an infection. If the pain is from a cavity, it will not help.

  6. More than likely it will not.  Ammoxicillin is giving for infection.  I'm guessing it's not an infection otherwise they would almost know that right away, they just gave you something to get you off their back.  Since your pregnant don't take anything for pain over the counter or from the doctors.  Even though over the counter pills maybe said to be ok when your pregnant they usually can cause problems even though the FDA won't admit it.  About the only thing your going to be able to use for now is some warm clove oil, it's pretty cheap stuff and you can usually get some from the grocery store if not definitely a health food store.  Don't use whole cloves it's nasty and is far less efficient than clove oil.  Just soak some gauze in some warm clove oil and put it where it hurts and it will numb it,  you will have to do it quite often but right now since your pregnant it's the best thing to do.
