Ammunition tipped to win Elizabeth Finn Care Devon National Handicap Chase
Ammunition is likely to prevail in the Elizabeth Finn Care Devon National Handicap Chase at Exeter in England on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. The winner of the event will bag a cash prize of £6,330.
The going is expected to be good to soft in the 3 metres, 6 furlong and 110 yard race, scheduled to begin at 3:30 GMT. A total of 13 runners are likely to be seen in action and their names are: Ammunition, Alderluck, Upham Atom, Clash Duff, Mortimers Cross,
Drybrook Bedouin, Atherstone Hill, Diamond Brook, How´s My Friend, Always Bold, Fair Point, Roseneath and Flying Award.
The bookmakers have shown faith in Nigel Twiston-Davies’ trainee, Ammunition, who has taken part in 22 chase races in his career until now. His strike rate is not much impressive, as he has managed to win only four times.
However, the 12-year-old gelding has a total of nine top-three finishes to his name, which suggests that he is fully capable of challenging the best in the business. His recent form is also very good, as he finished runner up in his last outing at Exeter
in January, this year. He was up against some quality runners and was one of the least expected runners’ to end up at the top of the table.
However, the seasoned gelding proved everyone wrong and finished just a couple of lengths behind race winner, Sarika.
Ammunition will be partnered by Sam Twiston-Davies, who has ridden to 64 victories while chasing. He has got a pretty decent strike rate and will be looking forward to an impressive outing yet again.
The punters will also be keeping their eyes on Atherstone Hill, trained by Robin Dickin. He has taken part in six chase races until now, winning three of them. There was only one occasion, where he failed to make it to the top three, which will encourage
the punters to place more bets on him.
The 10-year-old gelding has been doing a phenomenal job over the past few months and has very good chances of victory today. He will be partnered by Charlie Poste, who has earned 52 chase victories so far in his career.
Other than the top two favourites, no runner seems to be in a position to win the event at Exeter today.
