Question:

Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

My question is addressed to those who oppose "amnesty" for illegal immigrants. These are honest questions; I would like to know how people on the other side of this debate think.

Where is the line between amnesty and reform? Will you be satisfied with anything short of mass deportation?

What would be the impact on Mexico (and on the US) if millions of angry, unemployed deportees suddenly are returned there?

If national security is one of your concerns, of what value is locking the front door (Mexico) if we leave the back door (Canada) open?

What do you think of the argument that our labor market depends on these workers?

What do you think is fair to US-born children of illegal immigrants? Do you care?

I appreciate your insights. Thanks.

  1. I think they should have all the rights of American citizens. They should also be given free health care.

They are the ones building this country as you see them at construction sites all the time.

Americans are lazy and should have to pay for their own health care.

We should give them free college so they can be at parity with the rich Americans.

It's only fair. We don't own this country, the world does.

Remember this is a melting pot. It's in the constitution.

We have one purpose and one purpose only... to be hosts for our guests. And EVERYONE is our guests.

I say, GW, "tear down this wall!!!"

God bless you for realizing that they are people too and care more about this country than we do. We are here just to get a fat paycheck without doing any work.

If we just adopt socialism then we will be a better people. There is no reason your neighbor should be making more or less than you. People are greedy and we have to have a government in place to take our money away and distribute it fairly since they can fairly see where it is needed most.

No longer should we be arrogant Americans and pretend this country is ours and have laws regarding those who come here. I say let's repeal all those laws and open up our borders.

Where do we have the right to say others can't come? We simply were born here... we didn't try to get here... we did NOTHING! We did nothing and we deserve nothing. On the other hand the illegals went to great lengths to get here and they should be rewarded accordingly.

They should have every right to vote and shape this country into what they envision. Especially since they made so much an effort to be part of this great country.

    ===========

Look at those negatives I got!!! Looks like there are a bunch of bigots here.

If you're the wrong skin color they will discriminate every time. See what I am saying about Americans?

A bunch of White prejudiced people with their thumbs down is getting a little old!

    ========

When are Americans going to wake up and realize this isn't their country. They took it away from the Indians. They have no right being here anymore than the Mexicans who helped build this great country.

Anyone who is willing to come here should have all the benefits that ALL Americans have, without exception. How can Americans limit who is good and who is bad for their country. I say, until they throw out the Americans that are not any good, then they have no say on who enters their country.

They invade other countries and take them over like Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq. They kidnapped blacks as slaves to build their country and then treated them like dirt. They pollute the world's air with their fat rich oil companies and big SUV's. They pick on other countries like Iran and North Korea that are trying to make just one nuclear reactor when they have over 100 themselves.

They are ashamed of themselves and need others from the outside to bring back the pride they should have. Hispanic culture is something America needs to adopt before it collapses into a sea of destruction. Hispanic Pride is what they need, and learn to be a better people and harder working people.

They know full well what they are doing is wrong. Even their presidential candidates pray in a church that says God should d**n them. They know they should be damned but they continue these barbaric practices of keeping people out of their country and refusing benefits given to ALL Americans, just because of the color of their skin.

They have set an atmosphere where illegals that have broken the law will RESENT them. Is that what they want, to be resented? Ask any prisoner in their prisons who they resent (other than the DA and judge) and you will see how wrong America is and how they fester resentment.

They don't care about who loves them. They only want to be loved by those not breaking the law. How sick!!!

The truth hurts, otherwise I would not have so many negatives.

    =========

An immigrant is an immigrant, legal or not.

It's just a matter who you want to prejudice. Who you want to decide is good or bad. How about letting the immigrant decide? Let them decide by taking the jobs you don't want or are too lazy to do.

As they grow stronger and in greater numbers you will find they can run your country much better than how you have been running it. They will open it up to free trade and have an open door to Muslims that have been growing around the world at a record pace. No longer does American need to be a Christian nation but a balanced nation open to all religions of the world.

Islam is the fastest growing religion and the second largest religion in the world but why is it only a tiny part of America? One out of every 4 Americans should be Muslims, like it is around the world, if we were not prejudiced. But we only allow Christians in and limit others with our immigration policies.

Since this is America, some American will report me and have my answer removed so you can't hear the truth.

This is how they do it. They suppress those that tell the truth.

They keep them out of their country. They deny them benefits that they get every day. They won't let you drive without a license in many cities because you are not a citizen. It's this bigotry that keeps America white.

Amnesty is needed now and we should open up our borders!

We should never have a border guard on an American payroll.

One tortured illegal is one too many.

In short, I agree with "coffee_pot12."

  2. It is complicated at best.  On the one hand, we have people who come here to work and, as much as I hear Americans complain, not one of them are working the jobs that half of the illegals are williong to work.

And then we get to the point where one could logically assume that if someone is here illegally, then they are already breaking the law before they have ever paid a dime in taxes or gained citizenship.  That would mean that the potential for them to be law-abiding legal citizens seems to be non-existant.

Some people make the argument that they should all be welcome, but legally and via citizenship.  The problem with this is that our test for citizenship the majority (99%) of Americans would flunk.  It is a problem, but there is not one single solution.  There are a lot os solutions that need to happen on all arenas before for many years to come before this gets smoothed out.  Botton line:  The US government is not going to deport millions of illegals.  Like them or not we are going to be forced to deal with them.  Now we must figure out how.

  3. 1. I'm not in favor of amnesty. It rewards and encourages breaking the law. Deportation is fine with me.

    2. Not my business. Let Mexico handle its own domestic situations.

    3. The Canadian border should be diligently guarded as well, but until there is a massive influx of illegal Canadians streaming into the US, that border is not at crisis level.

    4. Nonsense. What it actually does is keep salaries down, enlarges corporate profits, and exploits the immigrant workers.

    5. Children born to illegal immigrants should not automatically be given US citizenship.

  4. 1) The line between amnesty and reform is the line between illegal acts and legal acts--(by anyone, not just illegal aliens).

    2) Mexico should handle their own problems. The U.S. is not the sugar daddy to the world. In the U.S., we would see a drop in unemployment as entire job sectors that are currently dominated by illegals would instead be employing legal U.S. citizens with legal documentation. The incidence of identity theft would drop as well.

    3) The value of locking the door to Mexico is that over 90% of the illegal drugs coming in to the U. S. would cease along with over 90% of the illegal aliens with the attendant problems of identity theft, latin-based gangs, and the growing problem of middle eastern terrorists entering the U.S. with a Mexican false identity. Similar activities from the Canadian border are miniscule by comparison.

    4) Only agricultural field labor is genuinely populated by illegal aliens who are doing "jobs Americans won't do". We should simply re-instate the barrista program of Mexican contract farm workers that worked quite well for decades. If illegals were deported, their domination of the service industry, the meat processing industry, the contruction industry etc. would end and those jobs would employ U.S. citizens again. The corporations would be forced to pay a decent wage to Americans who would be relieved to get their jobs back from underpaid illegals.

    5) U.S. born children of illegal aliens are not U.S. citizens by law. It is only a long-honored practice or custom--NOT the law. We should pass a law specifically ending this practice & apply it to all who are here now. Illegal aliens are the most stubborn class of U. S. residents regarding true assimilation into our culture so the vast majority speak Spanish fluently. Due to that, returning to their legal countries would not be an undue hardship. The governments of their home countries can set up programs to aid with assimilation. Bottom line is that the U.S. born children of illegal aliens should not be the "free pass" to the U. S. for their parents and extended families. Our country cannot afford it.

fyi, your last question, "Do you care?" infers that anyone against the wholesale open borders/full amnesty position is not caring or concerned. People on the "other side of the debate" will give you honest answers to your honest questions. Personally, I do care but what I care about is the U.S. and legal U.S. citizens above the citizens of other countries who break our laws to enter the U.S. It is a matter of priorities.

  5. 1) I will not be satisfied with anything short of mass deportation.

    2) Mexico is not my concern, they should have thought of the impact and possible ramifications before encouraging their people to break our laws.

    3) Locking that door so to speak is of great value. Besides the fact that the majority of illegals come through that door bringing violence with them, middle eastern terrorists are going to mexico, learning to act mexican and having coyotes bring them through.

    4) It's rubbish, there are plenty of Americans who are out of work that would love the jobs back that were taken from them.

    5) They should not have citizenship and should be returned with their parents.

  6. The only exception that I would entertain would be for kids brought here by their parents at a young age, and that have grown up here.  Often, they are shocked to turn 18 and find out that their parents brought them without documentation.  I do feel bad for them - they had no control in the matter.

Otherwise, no, I don't like any amnesty.  I really can't see the justification for rewarding people who ignore our laws.  I'd rather see us welcome more legal immigrants.

As to Mexico, I'd say that if they have a lot of upset citizens, that Mexico would need to address it.  We have taken care of another country's problems for too long.

I think that if we enforce our laws, that all people willunderstand that coming here will not be beneficial.  We don't need walls on the borders, only a clear message that we won't mess around.

I think as far as labor, there will always be people to fill the jobs.  We have many people here now that would be willing to do any work, if it means putting a meal on the table.

Edit:  As far as displaced population, it has already destabilized our border states.  It has destabilized our whole country, in fact.  Its ok to destabilize our country, but not theirs?  That's one of the reasons for wanting illegal immigration to stop.  Other nations need to learn to take care of their own people.

  7. "Where is the line between amnesty and reform? Will you be satisfied with anything short of mass deportation?"

Anything that allows those who entered this country illegally or stayed illegally will NEVER be accepted.  I don't think (and neither does anyone with any intelligence) that we will need to deport more then a few.  We simply take away the rewards/incentives and they will self deport at their own expense.

"What would be the impact on Mexico (and on the US) if millions of angry, unemployed deportees suddenly are returned there?"

We are angrier then they are and we are in the right both morally and ethically.  The problem of troubles in Mexico are Mexicos to solve.  They don't want our solutions (stop breeding until your economy can support the millions you already have) so what else can we do?

"If national security is one of your concerns, of what value is locking the front door (Mexico) if we leave the back door (Canada) open?"

If we stopped giving welfare, jobs, anchor babies, housing, schooling, medical, etc to everyone we wouldn't need to worry about it because the few that would still come could be easily handled by our border agents.

"What do you think of the argument that our labor market depends on these workers?"

It is a misguided argument.  Big business depends on the CHEAP labor that drives down every legal citizens paycheck.  Yeah I can save about 10 cents on a tomato.  But I pay dearly for that.  I pay higher taxes.  I pay in increased crime/pollution/population density/etc.  I pay because those good folks who are legal citizens trying to earn a good living can't because a illegal alien takes their job for peanuts.  I pay when I have to press one for English!

"What do you think is fair to US-born children of illegal immigrants? Do you care?"

I do feel badly that these kids parents think so little of them that they try to use them as pawns.  I think once we take that stupid rule away it just won't matter anymore and these idiots will stop using their children in this immoral way.

  8. 1.  No amnesty.  The only reform needed is clear enforcement of the current laws.  There is no need for anything else.

    2. I'm unconcerned about the impact on Mexico because we returned their lawful citizens to them.  The US gets too involved in the workings of other countries.  Mexico and Mexicans have created this problem.

    3.  Both doors should be open...but the more pressing problem is the Mexican border.  Once the huge problem with that border is fixed, we can move onto the relatively more miniscule problem.  The Canadian government has been our friend and ally when it comes to border control.  The Mexican government has not.

    4.  I think the argument re: labor is ridiculous.  By deporting all illegal aliens, people who play by the rules and abide by the law finally get an equal opportunity to compete in the market place.  I own a farm.  I hire only legal employees.  Why should I have to compete with farms that hire illegally -- underpay employees and avoid taxes and insurances?

    5.  I think US born children of illegal immigrants should stay with their parents during deportation.  If they want to return to the US upon their majority, that's up to them.  If they are abandoned, they should be protected by social services.

    ***edit***

The Mexican economy is the 14th largest in the world.  If the Mexican government isn't capable of fixing their own mess, who is?  We're not.  This country isn't in the financial shape to bail out Mexico from a mess of their own making.  Mexico needs to stand on it's own too feet and stop pretending to be a poor nation.

  9. It's like saying "we have laws, but we just don't give a ****"

I don't have a problem with cheap labor, but I have a problem with the complete disregard for the rules, and the disrespect it shows to every other person who is trying to emigrate to the US legally.

  10. 1. No reform, only mass deportation

2.Impact on Mexico-who cares, Impact on USA-more jobs, better education, less crime

3.All borders need to be protected

4.Our labor market does not rely on illegals, they are taking jobs that many citizens need now in this economic down slope, jobs were being done before they illegally invaded here and will get done again!!

    5. These children should be given the citizenship of the mother, if she is illegal, so is child.

To ask if we care, do they care? They put their children in danger just to sneak here, cause their children to lie and break the law, have their children looking behind their back constantly for "La Migra". If they do not care, why should we!!

Mexico has encouraged many of these illegals to come here, how many citizens have suffered at the hands of illegals, let Mexico deal with them!!!

  11. my answer:

    1)  Those that are not criminals or other negative issues, can work to become permanent residents BUT NEVER citizens.

    2)  IF Mexico refuses to address these problems,  shoot to kill at the border.

    3)  Labor markets have no standing in these issues,  all a smoke screen.

  12. Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants?

No!!!    Why should criminals be awarded amnesty???   MILLIONS of immigrants came here through the NORMAL and LEGAL process!!!!

Where is the line between amnesty and reform? Will you be satisfied with anything short of mass deportation?

    No, deportation only!!

What would be the impact on Mexico (and on the US) if millions of angry, unemployed deportees suddenly are returned there?

Positive Impact on US (crime rates going down, economy turning around for the good, etc).   If those angry Mexicans actually tried to fix the problems in Mexico then impact on Mexico would be good!!!

If national security is one of your concerns, of what value is locking the front door (Mexico) if we leave the back door (Canada) open?

Illegals from Canada are not the problem!!  However we should have tough border control at both borders!

What do you think of the argument that our labor market depends on these workers?

Total bull.   Who did those jobs before we were INVADED by Illegals????  AMERICANS!!!!!!!

What do you think is fair to US-born children of illegal immigrants? Do you care?

Unfortunately life is not fair.  If their parents went through the NORMAL and LEGAL process then they would be ok!!   There are way too many cases of Illegal women coming here and giving birth (via c-section) and STICKING the AMERICANS with the BILL!!!

  13. Kevin = typical mexican attitude. He even admits how communist these people are. Very sad.

  14. I did not move but am now living in a third world country.

I do not understand the language of everyone around me. and they are so rude!! will not say hello in greeting as you walk past and say hello... is there something wrong with just saying hello??

They have taken all the jobs at less $ or brought down the wages of the labor market.

They get food stamps, medical, education, housing assistance, small business loans, house loans, etc. etc.

They are driving these big fancy expensive cars? how do they get the loans for the cars and the houses? How do they, can they pass the credit check and back ground check for employment??

I can not get help for anything...denied...I am disabled from an on the job injury...can not get any type or sort of help...

tried for food stamps/medical and was the only white there!! and the only one denied! All the years that I worked!! and this is what I get back? must be bilingual!!

where I live at the labor market has been taken over by illegals..it is an invasion of the job snatchers...

they send $$$ back to Mexico and drain the American economy...use false SS# and s***w up someone elses life and the social security system..

the local police news in the paper....every item is broken side passenger window with stolen sterio, etc...

the shopping and grocery areas are catering to the mex taste in everything...the chore of shopping for groceries will drive a person to tears...

they have no value for anything...they throw into the dumpster anything and everything....furniture, appliances, clothes, food from the food bank that day... have a yard sale, take it to the thrift shop but please don't fill up the land fill!!??

and why do they need the car sterio set on 472 to hear it?? with speakers that rock the next block over....I want a push button so I can change it to Lawence Welk....haha...

everyone I know has moved away from this area because of this...a couple months later there will be 15 cars in a front yard and the house will look like h**l...it is so sad....

go back to your country and fix it, don't come here to destroy America....

the benefits and the rights that they expect and demand to get here in the USA do not exist in mexico...we could not go to their country and get anything...but they want everything here, inculdeing the food on my plate...

with my disability I can still answer phones and make appointments, but they have taken that over too and must be bilingual!!

every other corner has a mex type fast food place now, can't get away from the smell or the bad music...and these door to door food vendors??go away!!

and how did European polka music end up in mex???

yes I am bitter...we own 3 old funky vechicals, we can not afford the new fancy ones with the shiney c**p... our vechicls have been vandalised 7 x's and hit and run damage...my ugly car that would take me to a job that someone else took...

we stopped going to church because the assistant pastor is...and I just could not hear one more word without crying...so I listen to church on line....

  15. The important word here is "illegal".

I don't feel they are entitled to anything.

Women appear to come here just to have a US born baby.

Sounds harass, many people are willing to adopt babies.

    Moms are still illegal.

The illegals cost our government millions each year.

I am on medicare, society security, etc.  I have to decided which medicine I can do without each month.  Food  and fuel costs have skyrocketed.

I have and still pay my taxes!!!
