  1. It's a matter of taste and economics. 1 teaspoon of grounds for 6 ounces of water is a bit weak, looking more like cold brewed tea.

2 tablespoons is a lot of coffee grounds for 6 ounces of water, but this instruction is from the folks that sold youthe high priced coffee and is hoping you come back for more...quicker.

I have found 1 tablespoon or 7 grams of grounds to be a good starting point for most types of drip brewing. And depending on your taste adjust it up or down. I presently do a pour over type drip brewing for several of the folks here where I work and I am using 7 gram per 8 ounce cup and everyone is good with that.

  2. My Folgers says 1 Tablespoon per six ounces of water, but Starbucks coffee says 2 Tablespoons.  I think it may depend on the beans, and if it is supposed to be "mild" or "bold".  Maybe like recipes, the manufacturer uses the measurement that they think is best for their particular type of coffee.  I prefer to buy the ones that say 1 Tablespoon because, hey, its cheaper and I like it kind of mild in the morning (the only time I drink coffee).

  3. 1/3 cup to 12 cups of coffee

  4. One could argue that the writers of the instructions have different tastes, or perhaps that Dunkin Donuts is just trying to have you use a lot more of their coffee.

It really depends on two things: The brand of coffee that you use, and how strong or weak you like it to taste.

Coffee from a quality roaster should give you a full-bodied cup using one tablespoon of ground coffee per cup of water.

  5. You'll just have to experiment and find which strength of coffee you prefer. I use 1 Tablespoon per 6 oz water because I prefer the milder flavor. It's all up to what tastes good to you.

Here's a little hint: add about 1/8 tsp (I think that is called a "dash") of ground cinnamon to the ground coffee and brew as usual. It will add a very delicate hint of flavor and actually smooth out the flavor of the coffee. You can also add a tiny dash of ground cloves to the same basket and get a nice "bright" flavor.

Hey, experiment and see what you like!

    Enjoy.

PS- Starbucks coffee has a stronger flavor because it is roasted twice--some people, me included, think it has a burned flavor so I don't like it as much.

Dunkin' Doughnuts coffee is more mellow and I like it, too.
