Amount of energy in coal more than wood?

The question is suggest how you could tell that coal is a more concentrated store of chemical energy than wood is? Any help here please, thanks :)

  5. Simple use a calorimeter, suitably lagged, then burn them in it and measure differences. The science has been around for a long time.
