  1. I have a chevy sub had the same problem. All i did was bought 2 1100 cranking amp boat batteries from the boat store. $80.00 each for the batteries, also a battery isolator for $40.00 at pep boy's. With 2300 watts rms the volts never dropped below 14.2 volts with a stock 90 amp alternator.System slammin, headlights on,a/c kickin never dropped below 14.2 volts with 4 gauge wire from the rear battery. And a 10 gauge running from the alternator.WITH NO CAP in my opinion caps are a scam!!!!!!Forget caps most of the time it is a bad ground. To be on the safe side i grounded to the frame and i also ran a second ground 4 gauge from an alternator bracket bolt all the way to the rear battery. That was 2 years ago its still slammin!!!!!!  Caps are used to empty your wallet a little further.Have you noticed the price of a cap some cost more then the amp.Its all about your ground and power connections.MUST BE CLEAN AND TIGHT ALSO IF YOUR HAVING PROBLEMS WITH DIMMING WHEN THE BASS HITS REMOVE BATTERY FROM CAR AND MAKE SURE IT IS CHARGED PROPERLY.Alternators only put back what was takin out so if you started with low volts thats what you get back from alternator. For more info im me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  2. Get a high output alternator first.  Then, a new battery.  And then, if you're still having issues, then get a cap.

  3. it shouldnt be doing all that, check your alternator and I'd go with a 5 farad cap, too much is better than not enough

  4. A cap is not going to fix this problem. The problem is at your power source, the alternator, it may be insufficient to power the system, but before getting a new one, a usual fix is to do the Big Three upgrade, which would increase the size of the wire going to the alternator. A larger wire will have less resistance, less resistance equals higher current. Although you may have 4 gauge wire going to the amp, if the wire coming from the alternator is 10 gauge, then that is the weakest link in the system.

  5. what is your current battery? Thats your alternator causing the power drain I believe. I was just reading all you need is a high current alternator and a deep cycle battery.  Im lookin at this stuff cause I need to replace my batteries and they r around 200 apeice, and I allready have a high current alternator in the box.  A capacitor and two batteries will work too (its what I currently have) but mainly for if you want to run the car with the engine off, like in a show.

Optima yellowtop batteries claim they are for up to 10000 watts, but you need an alternator that can fill it as fast as you drain.
