Question:

Amp and Subwoofers?

I just installed an amp and subs to my 2001 chevy silverado and everything works except when I turn my truck on it seems like it has trouble starting up but starts up seconds later fine, while turning on the lights in the dash start flickering for a second. I think it's the power wire (red) from the amp to my positive battery. I just spliced the wire and then screwed the nut back on to the battery tight. Should I have some sort of fuse or something and if so where do I put it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  1. if you jsut bought and amp instalation kit it will have everything you need, and if a fuse dont help you may need to do the big three upgrade

  2. Yes there should be a fuse between your battery and the amp so cut the red wire 5 inches from the battery and put a fuse there you can find the fuse at any best-buy or car audio shop.

  3. you will need a big fuze..mount it close to the battery. to work out what size fuse you need devide the RMS watts of the amp by the car voltage 12v the answer you get will be the fuse size you will need in amps.as for the other problems as long as you have not wired other power or earth wires up to anything important eg:lighting or sensors.you may have other eletrical problems.if your truck is turning over slow you might have a week battery.  PS. make sure the amp remote wire is on a igntion sorce not constant power. as when you turn truck of amp will be sending you battery flat. good luck mate
