Question:

Amp is HOT!?

So i have a Pioneer GM-X862 amp, and 2 Sony XPlod XS-L1235's. When i put each sub on its own channel (left and right) it sounds incredibly weak and theres no bass. But if i were to unplug one of the rca cables one sub would hit hard but it sounded better than both. So i thought why not bridge them. So i plugged both positives into the positive bridge and both negatives into the negative bridge. This made them both hit incredibly hard. I was driving around testing them out and one of my friends said the amp was really hot so i went to check and sure enough it was really hot. Hot enough to burn you if you were to hold your hand on it. So is bridging them fine? and is it normal to be that hot?

  1. I the man when it come to car stereo myself have four L7 solo barics with 2 BD 2000 with 4 Pioneer 6x9s with 750 almani and nothing is bridge...

So the bottom line is you need a better Amp put your 6x9s on that Pioneer amp and one more thing Pioneer make ****'d Amps rookie...

  2. may be hot because the ohm load is to low for your amp! or you may need to mount your amp in a better vented area to get more air!!! or mount it vertical and not flat!!! but id check the ohm load

  3. first of all when running each sub on  its own channel u might want to check the polarity on each speaker sound like u got the wires crossed on one of the sub. Secondly, the reason your amp is running hot is because u have it running 1 ohm and that amp is only stable at 4 or 2 ohms bridged.
