Amr Ramsy Swelim takes down Dane sharp to move into final
– Saskatoon Boast Open 2011
Unseeded Italian Amr Ramsy Swelim took down the unseeded Canadian, Dane Sharp in the semi final of the Saskatoon Boast Open 2011 which is a part of the PSA World Tour Challenger 10 and is in its tenth year at the YMCA in Saskatoon, Canada.
The 27 year-old Egyptian born Italian, Swelim recoiled from a set down to get the best of the unseeded 26 year-old Canadian in fifty five minutes of the match to score 8-11, 11-9, 11-4, and 11-6.
Opting to serve first was Swelim as he had won the service toss and he got off to a great start as he rallied a few shots to keep his hold on the game. Though he had taken the lead in the initial part of the opening round, he was unable to keep his control
and fumbled in the latter part. During the first eight points the players were extremely competitive and matched a blow for a blow.
However, it was in the latter part of the match that Sharp had taken on a lucky break and clogged two successive games to bag the opening round with an 11-8 score to take the competitive edge.
After being put to shame and taking a beating in the opening round, the 27 year-old Italian made a tremendous return and took on an assertive style of play. He not only used the rail shot but also smashed a few advanced shots like the boast.
Moreover, he stop hitting hard and instead changed the height of his drive. In doing so; he dramatically changed the bounce of the ball to a foot or two above the service line this bought him enough time to return to T and hold his serve. Ultimately the
27 year-old Egyptian born Italian clogged the second set.
During the third set, the Italian restricted his opponent to only four points and won with a comfortable lead. However, in the fourth set, Sharp had picked up his game but was unable to set his rhythm in the match and with a few more unforced errors, he
threw in the towel after bagging just a mere six points.
The Egyptian born Italian, Swelim continued his winning streak and managed to land a spot in the final clash for the trophy against the top seeded Australian Zac Alexander.
