Question:

Amsterdam airport? Schiphol? Coffee Shops?

Ok well I did a search and I couldn't exactly find an answer that would help me, but as an American, I have a flight heading to Amsterdam tomorrow. I have about 4 and 15 minutes before my next flight, so I was wondering how close a coffee shop is that sells cannabis, hash brownies, because for me this is a once in a life time experience (at this age) and I'd really like to have fun before I get back on the flight to my next destination.

All help is appreciated, Thank you

  1. There are no coffeeshops at Schiphol airport for obvious reasons so you would have to go into town (20 mins each way by train).

4 hours in the summertime is nothing, so by the time you have disembarked, got through customs (providing you are entitled to actually exit on transit from Schiphol and assuming that your baggage will not need to be picked up to take to the next flight), buy a ticket, wait for the train, 20 mins to Amsterdam, then you are already late to come back. Queues at passport control are very busy in the summer period, sometimes extending through the terminal up to 2 hours long. Then it can be up to 25 mins walk to the gate

Then even if you manage it time-wise, how sensible do you think it is to go through an airport reeking of weed (in your hair, on your clothes). It's like holding a "search me" flag written on your forehead

The stuff here is stronger than other countries and if this is your first time then you will have no idea what is "normal" (especially with brownies) and could quickly end up stoned out of your skull.  I am sure your fellow passengers sitting by you will not be impressed, and actually if you are, the airline could well refuse to allow you to board.

So it's your decision, but if you want to make your connection, forget about the "life-time experience", have a coffee/drink in the airport and take it easy there for a bit instead.

BTW - you say "at this age".  You have to be 18 to buy it anyway and yes they will check ID, as due to licences being revoked and pressure being placed by the councils to close shops, it is not worth the coffeeshop 'looking the other way' these days.

  2. Hi,

Well 4 - 15 minutes won't do... Schiphol has no coffee shops like you are looking for. So you have to leave the airport and head for Amsterdam center. This is about half an hour by taxi. You can just tell the driver what you want, he probably won't take you to the cheapest place but with your time constraint...

So (depending on traffic) 2 rides of 30 mins. Some time in the city lets say half an hour as well. All together about 1,5 - 2 hours outside the airport.

A warning smoking this stuff or having it on you is no problem here, but jumping on and off planes smoking a joint is not really advisable. Hash smells, and customs don't like that smell :-)

Grin -- I don't believe there is something like an on demand delivery service for hash to schiphol :-)

My advise, take a later flight allow yourself a couple of hours have a good smoke, enjoy our friendly atmosphere and then head for the skies with only cannabis in your blood and brain.

BTW is kind of funny when the stuff was still illegal here I liked since you can buy it at any street corner I never smoke it.

    Take care.

    Hans

  3. You should at least have an 8 hour layover at Schiphol to be able to ' enjoy ' the botanical specialties in Amsterdam.

I`d forget about it this time - and plan again later.

4.15 is really way too short.

Best way - have a (long) weekend here so you`ll have time to recover - for as already mentioned - what you get here will definately be much stronger than just about anywhere else.
