Amsterdam apartment prices...?

Question

Could anyone tell me where in Amsterdam has the best priced apartments for rent? Also, how much is average cost for living in a rental there? I leave for there next fall if all works out. I plan to study at the university there.

Anyone please help?

If you mean the cheapest then there are of course cheap apartments available but you have to really take care as there are areas which you do not want to live as a female (either being Dutch or a foreigner) such as the 'De Bijlmer'  Sometimes cheap is not always the best option, especially if you are not familiar with the area.

Therefore if you are hunting from abroad I would strongly recommend that you contact the university that you are studying at.  They will either have a department or at least a contact person who will have experience and usually can provide an info pack.  This will ensure that you have recommended places by the university to ensure that it is in a safe environment.

This will probably mean that you will have a room in a shared accomodation rather than an apartment to yourself (e.g. Uilenstede in Amstelveen is close to the VU university and is a student area where you share a kitchen with about 7 other students and have your own bedroom & bathroom (and bills for water/gas/electricity etc are included).
