Amtrak - Food expense?

Considering trip 27 hours on Amtrak from FL to DC How is the food on board? What is the adverage cost and is it good? Do they have kids menu

No they don't have kids menus and if I remember correctly, a bagel and drink was $5.  You might be better bringing your own food.

There may be a dining car and a snack bar. Meals in the dining car are about $10-$16 for an entree. Desert is a few dollars extra. The snack bar can be anywhere from a couple of dollars to maybe $6 for a sandwich. There is a kids menu in the dining car. Here are copies of the menus.

The food is good, not great, it is all premade and only heated.

the days of a chef and full kitchen on trains is long gone.

A wee bit pricey but not horrible, you can bring your own food so I would strongly advise you to think about at least snacks or light meals that way.

The seats are quite good, way better than riding in a bus, or airplane or even your car and you can get up and move about a bit.

The trains are not normally full so a lot of times you can sort of lounge about and take up a bit more space.

Many long-haul trains still have full service diners with fresh food prepared to order.  Quality and price is comparable to Applebee's.

All Amtrak trains have a little "cafe" car which serves the kinda of of snacks and microwaved junk-food you can find at 7-11.  Soda, beer, chips, candy bar microwave pretzels, pizza and burgers. Carnival food, ya know.   Probably 25% more than 7-11 prices.

The only way they'd charge $5 for a soda and bagel is if it was a "bacon egg and cheese" sort of thing.   Sodas are $1.25 and they give you a cup of ice with it.
