How many locomotives and cars still remain in the Phase III paint scheme?

  1. Indeed, the Phase III stuff is pretty much gone, unless you can catch the remnants of it on something like F40s that have since been sold.  Considering the little money Amtrak receives annually it's even more amazing that they have been able to repaint their entire fleet so quickly (in just 10 years or so since the Phase IV scheme debuted).


  2. Very few, if any.  I have not seen one in about the last 5 years.  Amtrak has done a very thorough job of repainting their fleet.

    Though on many of the Superliner cars, you can see the outline of the Phase III stripe behind the Phase IV paint.  So all they did was paint over the old scheme.
